Star Trek.- To Go Boldly

Off the shelf

The way things are going, I should probably consider making this a books/movies/TVseries blog with things from my life and thoughts that are thrown randomly than a books/movies/anime/comics/TVseries one with random things. ´cause it´s been a long time since I last wrote about comics.

But there are only so many hours in the day and besides work -freelance and official-, I do have other responsibilities; and I quite honestly I´m a little lazy with my writing so…. there´s also that.

st_boldlygo01-coverAnyway…, from some reason right when my countdown to Rogue One´s premiere began -I´m planning to post my thoughts on that movie, hopefully before the year ends- I decided to catch up on my Star Trek comics!

How Star Wars took me to Star Trek is anyone´s guess, but the thing is that I returned to the Star Trek comics I was reading, only to discover that the main title was finished.

And not only that! It also turned out there is new comic undergoing -which also made me realize how out of the rest of the comic book world I have been since Rebirth-, so…. in the end I had a lot more catching up than I expected.

Ghostbusters: When there´s something strange in the reviews (Cuando hay algo extraño en las críticas)

Movie Thoughts

I went to see the new Ghostbusters movie with no expectations whatsoever, and you know what? I actually liked it. It was a funny and entertaining  movie. My friend and I really had fun watching it, so… while it wasn´t planned I decided to write a review ´cause if any movie needs it, is this one.

ghostbusters-2016-posterSo… Ghostbuster, I´m of the generation that grew up with the original films -or at least in my country-, I saw the movies, the cartoons, and everything, I also like Melissa McCarthy in almost all of her movies –Tammy comes to mind-, therefore the fact that I enjoyed this movie shouldn´t have come as a surprise, but it did! It really did! Especially after the comments and reviews I have seen online.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.- ´Cause sometimes you can only keep moving

Loved it-hated it

I was 11 years old, and I´d lost my mother, and my soul, and the Crucible game me you.

Baz from Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

You have to pretend you get an endgame, You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can´t carry on at all.

Simon from Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

wp-1455649507966.jpegIf I could get away with it, I really think I would quote all this book without writing my review, and that´s ´cause I love it!, ´cause there are so many phrases and expressions, sentences and words, that I wouldn´t want anyone to miss.

If you have read my Fangirl review, you would know that I fell in love with the world of Simon Snow before I knew that it existed, I fell in love with the characters and the potential story, trough Cath´s words, and the fictional author Gemma T. Leslie, and though I was very hyped to begin with, nothing could have prepared me for the real deal. Continue reading “Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.- ´Cause sometimes you can only keep moving”

Superman American Alien: Who wants to be an American Hero?

Keeping or leaving

Since I mostly seem to read and write about Marvel comics, it seemed fair that coming back to this little corner of my blog, I´d  go with a DC title that I´m loving and will be sad to see go, and that´s Superman American Alien!

Those who now me in person, are aware of the fact that I´m not a big Superman fan, I not a Batman fan either -but that´s more ´cause I personally think that the character is way overrated-, so I´m unaware as to what possessed me to start reading this comic; was it the art?, the glowing reviews I read and heard? the fact that it was a limited series?

Well… I guess it truly doesn´t matter, the point is that I´m a big fan now and I´m anxious to see what the big DC Rebirth does for the character -I really hope someone is able to imitate what Max Landis was able to do here-.

My problem with Superman has always been similar to my troubles with Captain America, I could never relate to him, he was always too powerful, too good and straightforward, etc., to be of my liking; but this time, I actually had fun reading about the character. I have been waiting for this one for quite a while since it´s been some time since the last time I participated, so imagine the irony when I saw this meme come today and I had no idea of what to write. So… ´cause I didn´t want to missed, I had to go with:

That could have been me.

about Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

My original plan was to read Eleanor & Park –´cause a friend recommended it to me- and then if I liked it, to read myself trough the rest of Rainbow Rowell´s books but while I was looking for it, I found Fangirl at my local bookstore and since I kind of consider myself a fangirl, I decided to check it out -that the cover was colorful and seemed fun also helped- and boy am I glad I did. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. Tragedy happens to all

Loved it-hated it

As I have probably mentioned before but I´m going to repeat it anyway, I like mystery novels -although this one falls more under the thriller genre I think- specially those that have a compelling case and are really thrilling and entertaining.

That being said while the mistery of this novel was pretty straight forward, I did enjoy reading about a woman that seems to have it all, discover that the man who she married is not what he seemed and it was quiet refreshing to see how she reacted to everything that was happening.

I wanted to participate and post my review of Big Little Lies -while it´s still fresh on my memory” so… I decided to kill two birds with one stone.

My sentence is:

How come I didn´t see that coming?

-about Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

Once again I read this book because a friend recommended it -in fact, it was the same friend that lent me The Nigh Circus by Erin Morgenstern– and I´m really glad that I did! Continue reading “Big Little Lies “1 Sentece Wednesday & Review””

M.O.D.O.K. Assasin: Mental Organism Designed Only for… Loving?

Keeping or leaving

If you had told me a couple of months ago, that M.O.D.O.K. would be the main protagonist of one of my favorite comics to come from the whole Secret Wars event, I´d have asked you: in what universe?

55ae8d3ebd85b.jpgI have never liked M.O.D.O.K., probably because I never got his appeal -his design was horrible, he never really seemed like a threat and honestly he reminded me of that annoying know it all kid that seems to be present in every classroom-; and even though I read his short story on Battleworld #1 -I think- and thought of it as entertaining, M.O.D.O.K. just wasn´t my cup of tea.

So… what changed? Nothing really, just that starting Secret Wars I decided to go in and read as many tie-ins as it was possible and M.O.D.O.K Assassin #1 written by Chris Yost and draw by Amilcar Pinna, happened to be one of the first ones I read, and I haven´t regretted it yet.
