Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 11 “Mea Maxima Culpa”.- And so… It Begins!

Now

shadowhunters-season-2-trailer-premieres-on-january-2-at-8pm-7cShadowhunters is finally back! Yeah, I´m actually excited about this show coming back and as you might know, I wasn´t a fan when it began, but! The mid-season finale really got to me and managed to raise my expectations, and so… here I am.

Anyhow the Season 2B premiere had the monumental task of connecting season´s A overall arch to this one´s, all the while maintaining the urgency feeling and not lowering the quality Shadowhunters has managed to rise -in fact, I would have to say that the big task for this half of the season is to raise it even more!-

So… how did the summer premiere do? Well, I´m here, no? -late, but here- So that should give you a hint, therefore here we go:

Dead Over Heels by Theresa Braun

Loved it-hated it

Well… I didn´t see that comming

It´s been a very long time since I last had the opportunity to read a book thank´s to the author, so… I really wish I had something better to say about this book ´cuase as you might know -if you read my list of books to read in June– I was really excited about it! But in the end… it turns it wasn´t my cup of tea.

I mean is not that it is a bad story, just that… in this case, I think that a longer book was really needed in order for the story to develop in a better way (or at least in my opinion).

Anyhow, allow me to explain:

Movies to Kickoff the Summer (Películas para dar Inicio al Verano)

Watching or waiting

Summer is here! Well… partially ´cause we´re not on vacations or at least not in Mexico -and I don´t have vacations anyway-, but technically speaking Summer has just begun and with it the summer blockbuster movie season -or at least that´s how it’s supposed to go-

Anyhow, this month at least, there are more than 2 movies that I really want to watch, and some others that… I´m still thinking about.

And as always just a friendly reminder that this since I live in Mexico, this is the Mexican release schedule, so… with nothing else to address, on to the list:

Y como siempre, solo les recuerdo amigablemente que como vivo en México, esta es la cartelera Mexicana con sus fechas, en fin…, sin nada más que decir, a la lista:

Summer Loving Books

Calling my name

It´s been a really long time since I last wrote anything on this blog, so long that honestly, I don´t know if there´s still people reading it or are interested in it, but be it there or not I´m finally back!

summer-reading-part-twoAnyhow, reasons for not having written anything I got plenty – work, health, trips, etc.-, but if I´m really honest with myself it really has to do with my lack of organization skills -I´m still working on that!-, but the point is that I´m finally back and ready to quick off the summer with some fun, loving and maybe one and other mystery.

So…. here are my book picks for June!

Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 10 “By the Light of Dawn”.-A Storm is Coming

Now

shadowhunters-season-2-trailer-premieres-on-january-2-at-8pm-7cIf you had told me a couple of weeks ago that I would be here writing about Shadowhunters of all shows, I would have pegged you as crazy, ´cause yeah…, that first episode was awful.

But here we are after 23 episodes, so there must be something to this show, right?

Well…, Shadowhunters is still not on Teen Wolf levels of awesomeness, but it´s getting there! ´cause as I have mentioned before season 2 is really a vast improvement to season 1. I´m finally fully invested in the characters and what´s happening with them outside of the overall plot, and that I have always believed, it´s the markings of good TV; when you start to care so much for the characters that the plot is just an extra.

But it wasn´t until this week episode that I had the need to write about one of this show episodes, ´cause… things got real pretty quickly in the Winter Finale.

Shadowhunters: They Say The Third Time´s The Charm

Now

So Grimm is ending and Teen Wolf is leaving, and although I still have Supernatural -Thank Chuck!- I figured it was time to look for another series about paranormal stuff to fill the void in my heart that these series -mainly Teen Wolf- will be leaving in my heart and so… Shadowhunters appeared.

shadowhunters-season-2-trailer-premieres-on-january-2-at-8pm-7cYes, I know, the series premiered like more than a year ago – I think-, so how come it´s only now that I´m getting into it? Well… I did see the premiere via Netflix, but… let´s just say it didn´t make that big of an impression, ´cause I really thought that the acting wasn’t that good -bearing some exceptions-, the visual effects and action severely lacking, the dialogue cringe worthy at times and the story… well let´s leave at the fact that I have read the first 3 books of Cassandra Clare´s Mortal Instruments series and I´m not dying to read the rest, so yeah…. I gave up.

Luckily, some of my friends bared with the series and stuck to it and then they told me that it actually got better and if I didn´t like the main character(s) -which was the case-, there were others and some story developments -different from the books- that more than made up for it-, so… were they right?

Doctor Strange: Forget Everything you Knew (Olvida Todo lo Que Conocías)

Movie Thoughts

Full disclosure, I´m not a big Doctor Strange fan, I know who he is -mainly because of the cartoons and some other comics-, and while I enjoy and love the character -at least what I have seen of him in other comic books and events-, for some strange reason -you see what I did there- I have never been able to get into his comics.

doctor-strange-magic-178841That being said, from the moment I saw Benedict Cumberbatch on BBC´s Sherlock, I knew he would be perfect for the role, so… when he was announced as Dr. Steven Strange, it was like a dream come true.

So… needless to say that I had really high expectations for this movie and those expectations made me worry because if Age Of Ultron and Batman V Superman taught me anything, it was that expectations can make a movie seem worse than it really is.

Therefore, just like with Suicide Squad, I told myself to lower my expectations; and hope at the very least for a movie as good as Ant-man -which I liked a lot, but if we´re honest isn´t Guardians of The Galaxy or Captain America: The Winter Soldier-, so I was pleasantly surprised when Doctor Strange not only met my expectations but also exceeded them!

Halloween & Día de Muertos Books Whispering to me

Calling my name

I usually dedicate this section to the books I really, really wish to read. The ones that keep teasing me with their synopsis and Goodreads keeps on pushing my way.  But since I have only written 2 posts in this section -not counting this one-, I have decided to
do something a little different and make a sort of book list per month -or 2 months-.

I have sort of done something like this in my comic book posts, so… the rules to apply here will be kind of similar.

capturaAnyway, in this instance, I decided to go with books that gave me a kind of Halloween and Día de Muertos feeling, ´cause that´s basically October and November -at least in regards to festivities-  are all about in my country if you leave the 20 de noviembre behind -revolutions day-

And I know that October is almost over, but this just makes it more fun to see if at least I´ll manage to finish one book in a week, right?

Anyhow, these are my  October-November picks -warning I don´t like horror-:
